Description
RAD 140 is an orally bioavailable, non-steroidal selective androgen receptor modulator, with potential tissue-selective androgenic/anti-androgenic activities. RAD 140 acts as an agonist in tissues such as skeletal muscle and bone, where it binds to and activates androgen receptors (ARs). In the prostate and breasts, RAD 140 acts as an antagonist and blocks AR activation and AR-mediated cellular proliferation. RAD 140 may improve bone formation, muscle mass and strength, and may inhibit both the growth of the prostate in males and AR-dependent breast cancer cells. RAD 140 increases neuron viability against Aβ in a concentration-dependent manner. RAD 140 is neuroprotective against kainate-induced hippocampal neuron loss.
In vivo, RAD 140 treatment resulted in a nonsignificant increase in the weights of seminal vesicles and prostate, which were still significantly lower than weights observed in the sham-GDX and GDX+T groups. On the other hand, RAD 140 significantly increased the weight of the levator ani, an androgen-responsive muscle, to levels similar to those observed in the sham-GDX and GDX+T groups.
How it Works
RAD 140 works by selectively stimulating androgen receptors in the skeletal muscle and bone. It stimulates muscle growth by promoting the development of muscle cells and proteins and has had little to no observed effect on reproductive organs or prostate.
